Spotify released their annual “wrapped” feature. Spotify is a music and podcast app that my family uses.
“Wrapped” is an annual summary of your listening habits. I have heard feedback that people think this is too much and seems like an invasion of privacy. I do not get that feeling.
I listened to 18,225 minutes of Spotify. About 300 hours or just under an hour a day. This put me in the Top 20% of Spotify listeners globally.
My Top 5 artists:
Grateful Dead (924 minutes, top 3% of listeners)
Taylor Swift
Journey
Eagles
Khruangbin
1,331 different songs from 571 different artists.
April 6th I listened the most for any single day, 682 minutes or almost 12 hours (this was a long flight back from Argentina). Wrapped focused on this single day, which I guess is interesting, but not really.
Multata Astake’s song “Tezeta” was my #1 song of the year (it was noted that I listened to the song a total of 15 times, which seems low…and mostly on April 6th). This is a good song for the right mood, but I would not place it among my favorites. Perhaps this demonstrates a bit of a flaw in the system as I think I was asleep and had this song on repeat during the long Argentina flight.
My Top Podcasts (8,881 podcast minutes):
Prof G (business and tech)
Bill Simmons (sports)
World of Daas (data industry)
Pints with Aquinas (faith discussions)
Joe Rogan (general interest, interesting guests)
What they didn’t tell me, and I wish they would:
What times of day do I generally listen?
What days of the week are my most popular listening days?
Give me a Top 10 rather than Top 5.
Show me what other people with similar listening profiles are listening to that I am not listening to (“top 5 artists/podcasts you may be missing”)
Now that Spotify has a few years of data on me, I’d be curious how my listening habits have changed over time.
Overall, this is a cool feature and I think any company that collects my info (for example my car…I’d be interested to know how many miles, where I went most often, etc).
