Final Four

While most people a laser focused on the NCAA basketball March Madness, the OHSAA hockey tournament wrapped up was last weekend, March 14-15. I finished my fourth year as an assistant coach for the St. Ignatius High School Hockey Team. I had previously been an assistant coach with the team from the ‘97-’98 season through the ‘03-’04 season.
We made the Final Four, hosted in Columbus, for the fourth consecutive year.
2022-23 - Lost in semis 4-3 to Olentangy Liberty (eventual champs).
2023-24 - Won states vs University School.
2024-25- Lost in Finals to Upper Arlington.
2025-26 - Lost in Finals to Gilmour Academy.
It is a cool experience. The team gets to play in the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL arena. Lots of fans show up. It is high-pressure and competitive hockey. There is a wonderful ~50-year history of the tournament that is well documented.
Of course, three teams go home disappointed, but after the sadness wears off, I know the kids will appreciate the experience.
Next year will be the 50th annual tournament and I hope we can get back again.
